Use Feedly for competitor research
Competitor research is always useful. Do you "friend" your competitors' Facebook pages? Do you take an occasional look at competitors' websites? We can learn a lot by listening to our competitors using online tools and one of the best tools is still the news reader. Feedly is an example of a popular news reader.

Feedly offers many suggestions for relevant news feeds, but these probably do not include the competitors in your area. However, you can usually discover the news feed of a competitor by just typing their domain name into the " Add Content" box on Feedly. Then you can select it and choose a category for the feed.
This is especially true if the website uses Wordpress or a similar Content Management System. Wordpress, for example, automatically generates a news feed for all posts on the site. If typing in the domain name-- for example, myCompetitor.com -- does not work, then go to the site and look for a link such as "blog" or "news" and type in that link.
Why use a news reader?
News readers offer you the advantage of systematically following your competition. Not only will you learn about industry awards, new partnerships, and even new major customers, but you can also get technical and business tips and learn about new trends in your industry. Many people follow the most well-known sites, but valuable small sites, that may have more relevant information for you, are often neglected.
Do you have a news feed?
If you yourself are not producing a news feed, you can set one up using mainstream blog software, but any set of organized stories that have regular updates can be used to create a news feed with some programming support. For example, a calendar of events. Be sure to inform your website visitors that they can subscribe.
