1/14/2020, Windows 7 support ends

3/26/2019

If you are one of the 40% of PC users still running Windows 7, time is running out. As of January 14, 2020, all free security updates will end, although Microsoft will offer a subscription plan for security updates for a short period of time. Windows 7 is now nearly ten years old and shows its age. Importantly, Windows 10 is planned to be the last numbered version of Windows, making Windows 10 more like a service. Microsoft is issuing updates to keep Windows 10 current and to eliminate the need to buy a future Windows XX.

Will my current computer support Windows 10?

Some older computers will be more sluggish on Windows 10. So, this may be the moment to upgrade your hardware too. In fact, the average new computer today is faster, lighter, more powerful, and costs less than the average computer of eight years ago. Staying with Windows 7 will not only leave you vulnerable to attacks, but will also make you unable to upgrade to newer software, such as Office 2019 that won't run on Windows 7.

Continuing with Windows 7 is hard to defend in our current climate of alarming and persistent cyber attacks.
